Main idea: most of the radial motion occurs in the outer envelope of the star. Thus, model the star as a thin shell.
Assumptions: linearity, adiabatic system.
Result: simple-harmonic oscillator

Goal: Make model more realistic by eliminating assumption of linearity.
Result: still resembles a simple-harmonic motion, with differences in oscillation period (of pressure, temperature, etc.)
